Behavioral Health Technician - Behavioral Health Urgent Care

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Behavioral Health Technician is responsible for providing direct, non-clinical support to clients at the Behavioral Health Urgent Care (BHUC) center. This position assists in maintaining a safe, therapeutic, and recovery-oriented environment, monitoring client behavior, and supporting clinical staff in crisis stabilization efforts. The Behavioral Health Technician I plays a key role in client engagement, observation, and documentation while adhering to trauma-informed care principles.

WORK DUTIES AND TASKS:

Job Duties:

30% - Monitor clients in designated areas to ensure safety and de-escalate situations as needed

20% - Assist with client engagement, orientation to the facility, and basic needs support (e.g., meals, comfort items)

15% - Document client observations, behaviors, and incidents in accordance with Medicaid and BHUC standards

15% - Support clinical staff during crisis interventions and safety planning

10% - Escort clients within the facility and during transfers when needed

5% - Maintain cleanliness and readiness of client areas in collaboration with environmental services

5% - Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and ongoing professional development

QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

High school diploma or GED required; Associate's degree in a human services field preferred.

At least 1 year of experience in behavioral health, crisis services, or a related human services role preferred.

Training in de-escalation, crisis response, or CPI certification preferred (must be obtained within 90 days of hire).

Ability to interact effectively with individuals in crisis and work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
